  • $180 for SAAA members
  • $200 for non-SAAA members

Details

The course usually runs on Monday and Tuesday nights for a total of 6 nights. A maximum of 10 people can attend the course. The course objective is to help you through problems that require working and help on related topics you may not be confident with as contained in the CASA day VFR syllabus for aeroplanes. We are aiming to give you the confidence to approach the PPL exam and understand “the important stuff”. Many of the questions will require prior learning which can be obtained from the course texts. These can be tested in your own time as well as during the course while the instructor will specialise in PPL for aeroplane – PPL(A).  Helicopter – PPL(H) intricacies will not be covered but may be learnt in your own time.

Where

The course will be held in the North Western area of Sydney, usually somewhere at or between Castle Hill and Richmond. Our first course was held at Bankstown Airport. Our second run of the course was held at a private residence in Castle Hill. We will usually pick a location central to the students attending.

When

6:30pm start each night, 2 nights per week, over 3 weeks.  Where possible please eat dinner before arrival.

TOTAL  NIGHTS = 6 | TOTAL HOURS = 18 hours

Requirements

Here is the official list of CASA exam material provided and required. CASA also provide extensive details about the PPL exam.

We believe the following list of items is necessary to help you get through the course and your PPL exam:

Books and Charts

  • Visual Flight Guide
  • ERSA – (should be up to date for the exam)
  • PCA – Planning Chart Australia
  • If you haven’t already got an aviation theory text set, such as the Trevor Thom, Aviation Theory Centre or Bob Tait series, you will need them as a reference. You’ll require the PPL(A) set or PPL(H) for helicopters.
  • You will also need a copy of the “CASA Day VFR workbook” which is used during the PPL theory exam to become familiar with it.

Materials

  • Rotating Plotter – All-in-one protractor and ruler with VNC, VTC scales (can be bought seperate).
  • Flight Calculator – All-in-one E6B and slide calculator for wind calculations.

Booking the PPL Exam

There are a variety of PPL exam providers. We recommend ASL at Bankstown.

Recommendations

We strongly recommend that you book to take the PPL exam around one week after the course. This way you can study, revise and let the information sink in and give yourself the best chance of success. Any time wasting here could loose or waste your precious dollars and hard work.

Ensure that you know the reason for your answers. Be absolutely sure you understand each topic.

Do everything you can to ensure you are confident to take the exam. That’s the main aim of this course. Everyone is afraid of failing this exam but its not the end of the world if you do fail.  If you fail, you can sit the exam again and there is no loss of browny points.
